TIPS - HOME INSURANCE
tip #1

If you feel you may need Flood Insurance, this coverage is usually EXCLUDED in your Homeowner Policy. Make sure you talk to your agent about flood coverage so you are not left without. Return to our home page to link directly to the National Flood Insurance Program.

tip #2

Insurance companies exist to make sure you are properly compensated in the event of a loss. Insurance adjusters do their best to make sure payment is provided accurately by the terms of the policy. In the case that you may have items that are hard to valuate, such as antiques, make sure you keep good documentation OFF-PREMISES so you can present it to the adjuster if you need to in order to prove value. Something like a toaster, the adjuster could just go to the local Wal-Mart to figure out the price, but if it is hard to valuate, protect yourself with documentation. If you don't have anywhere off-premises to store the documentation, send it to your agent or the insurance company for them to keep in your file.

Also too, discuss the hard to value items with your agent and make sure you have proper coverage on them. Such endorsements are available to add to your policy like Replacement Cost coverage and the Scheduled Personal Property endorsement.
