COVERAGES
& TERMS - OTHER INSURANCE |
|
|
Boats |
Boat policies are usually written on an Actual Cash Value
basis, although some specialty companies will write Stated Value policies
on newer boats.
Bass boats, if used in tournaments, and high performance speedboats are
usually written by specialty carriers.
Small boats with less than 50 HP and 26 ft can be afforded some
coverage under many homeowners programs.

|
Classic Autos
|
If your vehicle is garaged, you are willing to limit your
use to s specific number of miles per year, and not park in shopping centers,
you can obtain a special auto policy from several specialty carriers at
significantly reduced rates from standard auto policies.
|
|
|
Golf Carts
|
Liability from use of golf carts while golfing
is usually covered by the homeowners policy, and many companies will add
physical damage coverage by endorsement. If you use your cart off of the
course, such as driving to your house on side streets, or neighborhood cart
paths, you will need to purchase a separate policy. |
|
Jet Skis
|
Jet Skis are insured under a separate policy, and today
many of the large multi-line companies will write them. Rates can vary,
and driving records will play a large role in both rates and acceptance.
If you have older jet skis and are tempted to drop the insurance, you
should keep the liability coverage, as this is an exposure you definitely
do not want uninsured!

|
|
Motorcycles |
Motorcyle insurance is not all that hard to obtain, unless
you are under age 30 with a "crotch rocket" or have a bad driving
record. For some enthusiasts of particular bikes, like Harleys, it may pay
to be with a company that recognizes and supports your desire to have any
work done by a HD dealer. |
|
Motorhomes |
Motorhomes are a significant liability and physical damage
exposure, and are usually insured on a separate policy. Some specialty carriers
will write on a full replacement cost basis for the first few years of new
ownership, otherwise there is not much variance between companies from a
product perspective. Take a close look at the Towing, Labor and Emergency
Road Services that come with the policy though, since standard auto amounts
are insufficient, and specialized services are required for motorhome breakdowns,
which usually occur during vacations. |
|
|
Snowmobiles |
There are only a handful of states that require Liability
coverage on snowmobiles, but, just like Jet Skis, it is always a good idea
to carry at least Liability coverage. You should know that there is virtually
no company that "likes" to write coverage on these, so it will
be an accommodation through your homeowner and auto company, or one of a
very small number of specialty companies. |
 |
|
|
|
Travel Trailers |
Liability coverage on a Travel Trailer is usually unnecessary.
While moving, your auto liabiity covers you, and while stationery, your
homeowners. A specialty company policy will provide supplemental liability
to plug any gaps your homeowner policy might leave, and give you the option
of coverage for personal property which is subject to limits off premises
under the homeowners policy. |
|
Umbrella / Excess Liability |
If you have any assets or income to speak of, and own any
of the stuffon this page, you should varry an umbrella or excess liability
policy. Rates and underwritng get tougher with bad driving records and ownershp
of some of the high performance "toys". Generally, you will have
to purchase the umbrella from the same company that has both your auto and
your home insured. |
|
|
Yachts |
These are always insured under separate Marine Yacht policies.
If you can afford the yacht, you should have an agent that can place this
for you and assure you af the proper coverages and limits. |
